Informal Feedback: The Ultimate Culture-Builder

I hope this newsletter finds you well and on top of your 2023 goals!

This week, I’d like to talk a little about ‘informal feedback’. As you know, I’m a big believer in the power of informal feedback, and I think it’s something that every leader should be taking advantage of.

Informal feedback is all about getting a sense of how your team members are feeling, what they’re thinking, and what they need from you as their leader. It’s not just about performance reviews or formal evaluations, it’s about having real, honest, and open conversations with your team members.

In my opinion, informal feedback is one of the best ways to build trust and create a culture of open communication within your team. When your team members feel like they can come to you with anything, they’ll be more engaged and motivated. Plus, you’ll be able to identify and address issues before they turn into bigger problems.

But, I know that getting informal feedback can be a bit tricky. It’s not always easy to get your team members to open up and share their thoughts. That’s why I wanted to share a few tips with you:

  1. Create an environment where people feel comfortable sharing their thoughts. This could be as simple as making sure your office door is always open, or having regular team meetings where everyone can share their thoughts and ideas.
  2. Listen actively. When your team members do share their thoughts, make sure you’re paying attention and actively listening to what they have to say.
  3. Follow up. After you’ve had a conversation, make sure you follow up and let your team members know what you’re doing to address any issues they’ve brought up.

Informal feedback is the key to staying on top of things, to being a better leader, and to creating a culture of open communication. And let’s be real, that’s what it’s all about.

So go out there, have some open and honest conversations with your team, and see how it can make a difference in your leadership.
